Ralph Leyh Obituary

Ralph Stephen Leyh MURRELLS INLET, SC - Ralph Stephen Leyh 70, of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed into eternal rest Sunday, March 10, 2024, after sustaining injuries from a fall. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Stover Leyh. Ralph is also survived by his son, Jeffrey Stephen Leyh (Ashley) of Greenville, SC. Preceding Ralph in death is a stepdaughter, Nicole Clifton Beale. Surviving family members are grandson, Cole Beale of Mt. Pleasant (Nicoles son); a step-son, Jamie Clifton (Amy) of Summerville, SC; and a step-daughter, Holly Lewis (Pete) of Lake Wylie, SC. With heavy hearts Ralph's brother, Joseph Conrad Leyh Jr. (Belva), and sister, Charlotte Leyh Trammell (Steve), say goodbye to their younger brother. He joins their parents, Joseph Conrad Leyh Sr. and Valda Knight Leyh in their eternal rest. Ralph will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ralph was born December 15, 1953, in Charleston, SC. He graduated from North Charleston High School (Class of 71) where he was a member of the marching band and the basketball team. Ralph attended Clemson University, earning a BA degree (Class of 75) in Administrative Management. He worked for several paper/packaging companies, including Charleston Packaging, Union Camp, International Paper, and Exopack, residing in Charleston, Greenville and Mt. Pleasant, SC. After a long career in sales, Ralph retired and set about enjoying the passions in his life. Music was a huge part of who Ralph was. He was in a band in college and later a member of the popular band the Ninth Row in the 70's - 90's playing saxophone and singing lead. In retirement, he enjoyed singing karaoke at Blues in Mt. Pleasant and at the Garden City Pier. Another passion was his love for the Clemson Tigers. Orange was his wardrobe color of choice. His love for cooking and grilling served him well for tailgating and preparing his favorite spread, a low-country boil. Golfing was also a favorite pastime. Ralph was a loving caregiver for many years to his mother-in-law, Alda Stover. Perhaps he was happiest though spending time with his and Diane's sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Bentley and TJ. They loved Ralph, were his constant companions, and were by his side when he passed. Rest in peace, Ralph. A visitation will be held to celebrate and remember the life of Ralph Stephen Leyh, Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Brickyard Plantation Clubhouse, 1100 Brickyard Parkway, Mt Pleasant, SC 29466, during the hours 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

Thoughts and prayers to your family Ralph. Fun memories from band in high school and the cd you sent me last year of some of you music. I cherish it. Fly high and sing to the angels.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Ralph's passing. We were good friends back at NoChas in the day. He was always in good spirits and we had a lot of laughs and good times. My condolences to all his family and prayers that his memories will help comfort your sorrows. This is just so soon after the recent passing of another close school mate Richard Sligh. We all lived fairly close to one another and were all buddies. Played a bit of golf together too. RIP Ralph. You can rest easy now. Johnny Archambault

I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Ralph since the first grade. He was certainly the nicest kid in class (maybe in the whole school). I remember when he gave a saxophone demonstration in about the 5th grade!

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief, especially Diane & Mrs. Stover. You and your family were always so caring & kind, taking me into your home to share the holidays when I was between deployments & not able to get up North to spend it with my own family. I will always remember Ralph’s love for cooking, I believe he was a grill master & always took pleasure in sharing with others. The nights of karaoke were always so much fun with Ralph, won’t ever forget that halloween dressed as Boy George and belting out his tunes in perfect replicas of Boy George while the audience danced the night away. So much fun, he will be missed dearly & I am still in shock from this GREAT tragedy but do know he is with God now, probably asking where is the Karaoke machine? Rest in peace my friend. ❤
