Pieter de Vries Obituary

Pieter de Vries CHARLESTON - Pieter "Piet" de Vries, of Charleston, South Carolina, departed this earth on July 23, 2024, at the age of 46. Piet was born on June 13, 1978 to Margaretha Brenninkmeijer and Nicholas de Vries, who loved him dearly, and spent his childhood between Alamo, CA, and Beaufort, SC. He attended Beaufort Academy and graduated from the Phelps School in Pennsylvania. Piet received a Bachelor's degree from the College of Charleston. Piet found his calling in the thriving Charleston real estate market and was very successful as a property manager, running and developing property management divisions for several local firms. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and found peace boating and fishing in the Lowcountry's marshes and waterways, often sharing these times with family and friends. Piet loved animals from a young age, something he learned from his father, was an avid gardener, and an amateur horticulturist. His passion was palm trees, always seeking out new species to grow and foster. Piet had a wonderful smile and an incredible sense of humor. His smile and ability to make anyone belly laugh were undoubtedly key to his successful career. Above all, Piet loved his son, Lucian, with all his heart. Piet will be greatly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known such a wonderful soul. Piet is survived by his former spouse, Sterling Bateman de Vries, and their son, Lucian de Vries; his mother, Margaretha Brenninkmeijer; his brothers, Andrew de Vries and Todd de Vries; his sister, Rose de Vries; and his niece and nephews, Ella de Vries, Dylan de Vries, and Brenn Peeples. A celebration of Piet's life will occur in early September. Notification to follow.
