Phyllis Benton Obituary

Phyllis Benton WALTERBORO - Mrs. Phyllis Irene Nuce Benton, 52, of Prices Bridge Lane on the Horseshoe Creek in Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, March 23, 2013, following a long and courageously fought battle against cancer at the Saint Francis Hospital in Charleston. Born February 2, 1961, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Lee Nuce and the late Alma Irene Smoak Nuce. She had been a resident of Walterboro since 1976 and was a rural mail carrier from the United State Postal Service having retired in Walterboro. She was a member of North Walterboro Baptist Church and for many years was a dedicated volunteer to the Colleton County High School Band of Blue, serving selflessly in numerous behind the scenes areas with a group she dearly loved. Phyllis was loved by many, her smile brought joy and laughter to all those around her regardless of the situation or difficulties that were present, and she will always be fondly remembered as a wonderful and caring person. There are numerous nieces and nephews as well as many other adopted family members that also survive. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dexter R. Benton. Flowers will be accepted, or for those who wish, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Colleton County Relay For Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
