Philip Meyer Obituary

Philip Edward Meyer CHARLESTON - Philip Edward Meyer, 75, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Philip was born on April 11, 1949, at Hamilton Field AFB in Novato, California, where his father, Lt. Col. Edward G. Meyer, was stationed as a bomber pilot. Besides the California Bay Area, and as part of an Air Force family, Philip also lived in Dover, Delaware, and New Delhi, India, before landing at Charleston AFB, SC. After his father's retirement from the Air Force, Philip's family moved to nearby Summerville, SC, with his mom, Eileen Hay-Jahans Meyer. Philip attended Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA, before attending and graduating from Summerville High School. Philip proudly served in the Navy on the USS Sunbird from 1970-1972 where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After serving in the Vietnam War, he showed his support for many organizations such as Wounded Warriors, Vietnam Memorial Fund, USO, Disabled Veterans Foundation and many others. As a young adult, Philip moved back to Charleston. He started working for Brigman Foods, where he spent the better part of his career and later retired with US Foodservice. Philip was an avid golfer. He recently shot a hole in one at Stono Ferry at the 2nd hole. He had a love for softball and played with Hughes Construction in his earlier years. Philip also was a devoted bowler through Ashley Lanes in West Ashley. He bled orange for his Clemson Tigers and always wore his tiger paws with pride! He had a deep love for music no matter the style, but The Eagles had a special place in his heart. You could always find him and Nancy in the yard as they enjoyed making their place their own little oasis. Philip is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Nancy Condon Meyer; their two daughters, Lauren (Brad) Rochford and Ashley (David) Puckhaber; their three grandchildren, Kate, Avery and Emily Rochford and his two sisters, Karen Marie Meyer of Steilacoom, WA, and Melanie Anne Meyer of Anchorage, AK. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, April 4, 2025, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (www.support.woundedwarriorproject.org). Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc., (843) 766-1365.

Phil and family I'm just seeing this as of May 24 2025. Since I move from Charleston 7 years ago I'm missing many things. I feel so bad for missing your passing but even more for missing your friendship. I was always happy to see you out and about in West Ashley. All the years we played softball I will never forget the only bad part I was always playing against you. But did have the honor of having you on our bowling team one summer and we came in first. It breaks my heart to not hearing of this since I moved and left all my friends behind. So I want to say a belated good bye and want you to know how much I honored being around you in the best of times and will never forget you! God Bless the family I know they miss you very much! I remember Phillip from our years together at Summville High: a winsome, sometimes mischievous smile; always a gentleman. He and Melanie were among my "most handsome/ most beautiful" friends. So thankful we got to catch up 4 years ago, while attending a Christmas party in Summerville.
Deepest condolences to Karen, Melanie, his immediate family and all those mourning his passing.
God Bless you!

Nancy, I will always remember Philip’s hearty laughter, caring smile, and kindness to everyone. Tony and I have such fond loving memories of our time with the two of you. And as he now rests in peace, may you be comforted to know what a rich and loving life Philip had. You, Nancy, were a major part of his joy. Now he rests in his eternal home, and will always be a special light in our hearts. We love you, Philip. With grateful memories!
