Peter Mahoney COLUMBIA, SC - Mr. Peter John Mahoney, 73, of Columbia, SC, passed away recently. Born on June 22, 1950 in Chattanooga, TN, a son of Barbara McCormick Mahoney and J. Armstrong Mahoney. Growing up in Mt. Pleasant, Pete graduated Bishop England High School and attended Clemson University. He loved music and history, seldom missing an opportunity to collaborate with local musicians. After several years as a merchant seaman and shrimper, he found his place as a field engineer in construction, contributing to many notable projects. A unique sense of humor and outlook on life will always be remembered by many. Peter is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Mahoney McKenzie. Peter is survived by siblings: James A. Mahoney, Jr. (Linda), Kathleen Mahoney, Helen Bamberg (Hammond) and John Mahoney (Heidi); as well as seven nephews, two nieces, and their loving children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Ancrum SPCA, 3861 Leeds Avenue, Charleston, SC 29412.
