Pearl McNeely Obituary

McNEELY, Pearl Pearl Gardner McNeely, 92, formerly of Aiken, SC and Huger, SC, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at The Hospice of Charleston, Mt. Pleasant. Born May 12, 1916 in Charleston, West Virginia, she was the daughter of John Harrison and Alice Grubb Morton. Mrs. McNeely was a graduate of Mauldin High School and a retired hair dresser. She was a Baptist. A coal miner's daughter, her youth was spent in creeks and hollows, barefoot on country roads. Times were hard and things were scare in the time of hand-me-down cloths. But through it wall and in her heart, she knew her life would grow, her love, her courage, and her faith, helped her make it so. When her husband died in 1950, she moved to South Carolina to raise her three young sons. She is survived by her sons and their wives: Charles W. and Earlene Gardner of Aiken, SC, Arthur Ray and Brenda Gardner of Givhans, SC and John E. and Lynnette Gardner of Huger, SC; 11 grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands, Charles W. Gardner and Sam McNeely; sisters, Audra Butler; Ruth Burger, and Anna May Rousey and brothers, Gaston Morton, Harrison Morton and John Morton. The services will be private with interment in Cunningham Memorial Park, Charleston, WV. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, Foundation, 3870 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29405. I have so many great memories of my aunt pearl . all the holidays at her house and the laughter and the curlers in my hair. the last time i was with her she was eating all of aunt audrys pecans and they were kidding about it.god bless her for being there for my dad. nola morton lawrence
