Pamela Schumacher Blank Obituary

Pamela Schumacher Blank

Charleston - Pamela Schumacher Blank, 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, beloved wife of Leonard Aubrey Blank, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, January 10, 2026. She was surrounded by her family. Arrangements are being handled by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. downtown chapel at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive visitors one hour prior.

Pam was born Pamela Gene Schumacher, August 2, 1944 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. to late Ralph Martin Schumacher and Hilda Doscher Schumacher, also of Charleston. She was christened at St. Mathew's Lutheran Church, her family church from its founding c.1837. Pam, along with her loving sister Dawn, attended St. Andrew's Elementary School and St. Andrews High School where she was a cheerleader and danced in school shows. She participated in the Azalea Parade on King Street in Charleston. Pam attended Palmer Junior College, Charleston and was voted Ms. Palmer. Pam's summers were spent at Folly Beach at the house of her beloved Aunt Sugar and Uncle Mike, surrounded by her mother's 8 siblings and their families. The large, close-knit Doscher family of aunts, uncles, and cousins made every summer and holiday memorable.

Pam married her childhood sweetheart, since the age of 12, Leonard Blank, in 1977. Together they combined their 3 children; Jeff, Chip and Pam, who came together in a house on James Island, by the river, built by Leonard and Pam for the purpose of nurturing and raising their new family. The house was always open and full of love, becoming the central feature in their lives.

What followed was years of time on and near the water. Pam loved to take long family beach-combing walks on Folly and Bird Key. She loved riding the rivers of Charleston with Leonard, enjoying the feel and smell of salt air. She was a master crabber, spending countless quiet hours coaxing blue and stone crabs to her net. She would prepare deviled crab and fried shrimp, with red rice and butter beans, for her family.

A passionate reader, Pam, instilled the love of reading and the value of education on her children. She was an artist who worked in acrylic on canvas. She loved to paint camellias and azaleas. Her originals hung in her relatives' homes for years. She was an intense supporter of her children and grandchildren when it came to sports. She became involved in baseball, soccer, lacrosse and cheerleading competitions, often participating in scorekeeping and other team activities.

For over 40 years, Pam hosted the Annual Family Christmas Party at her home, continuing the tradition started by her mother decades before, bringing joy to generations. In 2001, Pam and Leonard became a member of Christ St. Paul's Church, Adam's Run, where she worshipped faithfully for over 20 years and taught Vacation Bible School.

She eagerly joined Leonard's efforts to create the new town of James Island, supporting him in a seemingly endless number of functions and ceremonies. Together, Pam and Leonard volunteered at the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, Johns Island for 26 years. Pam was honored with the U.S. Presidential Lifetime Volunteer Achievement Award for her dedication and service.

Pam is survived by her husband, Leonard Aubrey Blank of Charleston, sons, Jeff Blank of Mt. Pleasant; Chip Hill (Sandy) of Daniel Island; daughter, Pam White (Jim) of Charleston; grandchildren, Robert Blank (Brittany) of Charlotte; Emily Blank of Charleston; Mary Catherine Blank of Charleston; Zan White (Anna) of Charleston; Jackson White of Charleston; and Doscher Hill of Daniel Island; great-grandchildren, Adelaide and Ella Blank of Charlotte, sister, Dawn Howell (John) of Folly Beach, nephews Travis Howell (Shayna) of Folly Beach; Scott Howell (Valerie) of Folly Beach.

She will be missed for her grace, humor and devotion to family.

Leonard I´m so sorry for the loss of Mrs. Pam. She was such a great lady and lord all the great memories she gave me while our time together at the store.

I looked forward to seeing you and her walking through the front door at Habitat. She managed to bring such a great energy to the store and always loved to just sit and talk with her. Some great memories and conversations were made sitting in our receiving area. I tell you one thing she always was on the search for the perfect pair of chairs for her home. I can´t tell you how many chairs she went through until she finally found the perfect set. It always made me smile/laugh when Leonard was loading them because he knew they would be back in no time!

Pam always made sure that my father and myself were taking care of ourselves and take the time to check in how everyone was doing. I´m so grateful to have made such a great friend turn family through our work at Habitat for Humanity. She always jumped in where ever was needed and was such a blessing to have there at the store.

You will be missed greatly by myself and your family at the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Paris and I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer with Pam and Leonard for almost 20 years at the Sea Island Habitat for Humanity. We loved her kindness and dedication and looked forward to re-uniting each year during our four months on Johns Island. Family was most important to her and she often recounted loving stories involving her children, grandchildren and great-grands. much love from your Yankee friends,
