BARR, Oscar Funeral services for Mr. Oscar James Barr will be held on Friday at 12 noon from St. Peters AME Church on 4650 Sanders Ave., N. Charleston, SC, Rev. George W. Brown, Jr., officiant and burial in Carolina Memorial Park, Rivers Ave., Charleston, SC, directed by GREEN'S FUNERAL HOME of Lake City, SC. Mr. Barr age 81 died on Friday. He was born in Lake City, a son of the late Solomon and Essie Mae McGill Barr. A veteran of the United States Navy, retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of St. Peter's AME Church where he served as Usher and Trustee; other affiliations, Union Heights Masonic Lodge #328, George Washington Carver #162, Arabian #139, Jenkins Terrace Association, N. Charleston Police and Landlord Assoc. Surviving are two daughters, Hattie Graham of Bronx, NY, and Catherine Merita (Richard) Barnes of Hackensack, NJ; two sons, Rev. Dwight E. Barr of N. Charleston, SC, and Rodney S. Barr of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a step-sister, Juanita Fulmore of Lake City, SC; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, Henrietta Fields, mother of Dwight and Rodney, devoted friend, Rev. Luther Gibbs, Godchild, Marina Carter, daughter-in-law, Mary A. Barr, special nephew, Col. Ricky Daniels, sisters-in-law, Sadie Eller of Fayetteville, NC, Dora (Melvin) Evans of Clinton, MS; Lillie Mae Fulmore of Edglewood, NJ, Rosa Barr of Miami, FL, Ruth Barr of Hollywood, FL, Janie Graham of Teaneck, NJ, and Mary G. Randolph of N. Charleston; brothers-in-law, Andrew (Mary) Brown of Weldon, NC and Ernest (Osie) Gathers of N. Charleston; a devoted friend, Emily Brown of Charleston, SC, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. A wake service on Wednesday, 7 until 8 p.m., at the funeral home. A wake Thursday 7 until 9 p.m. at the St. Peters Church in N. Charleston. Memorials may be made to Hospice or the American Cancer Society in lieu of florals.
