Nettie Knight Poulnot
Charleston - Nettie Knight Poulnot, 89, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Born on March 2, 1936, in Charleston, Nettie was the daughter of the late Oscar Emanuel Knight and Anna Estelle "Essie" Bunch Knight. Nettie was the baby of her family and remained close with her siblings throughout their lives. After graduating from Rivers High School, she worked in banking, where she excelled and made many lifelong friends.
Nettie married the love of her life, Willie, on April 16, 1967, and their 58 year marriage was a perfect example of love and devotion through the decades. Nettie's family was the center of her world, and she was a doting mother and MaMa to her daughters and grandchildren. She was a gifted singer and bowler, and she loved dancing to beach music with her forever partner. Her generosity, impeccable fashion sense, and hospitality will be remembered by many. She was the epitome of a gracious southern host, and any guest in her home was always welcomed with a glass of sweet tea.
Nettie is survived by her children, Robin Poulnot Gaulden (Thomas) and Amy Poulnot Baker (Scott); adored grandchildren, Nicholas, Logan, Hodges, and Evan; brother, Melvin Clyde Knight; sister-in-law, Sue Ellen Ratcliffe; and many nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents, Nettie is reunited with her beloved husband, Wilton Owen Poulnot, Jr.; and siblings, Emanuel David Knight, Valda Knight Leyh, and Agnes Knight Thompson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 11:00 am, both at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Burial at Parks Cemetery in Summerville will follow.
