Miriam Dingle Obituary

DINGLE, Miriam The family of Miriam (Dee Dee) Brunson Dingle sadly announces her death on April 17, 2005, at home in Summerville, SC. Mrs. Dingle died after a four-year battle with vascular disease. Known affectionately as "Dee Dee," she was deeply loved by friends and family and will be sorely missed. Miriam was the wife of Dickey Rutledge Dingle and the daughter of Josephine Alsbrook Brunson and Matthew Elridge Brunson. She was born on April 7, 1928, in Davis Station, SC. She attended grammar school in Summerton, SC, and graduated from Summerton High School. Miriam was a member of the Summerton High Girls Basketball team and in her senior year, sank a shot from mid-court that resulted in a state championship for the Summerton Girl's Team. During her lifetime, Miriam had many different careers. She worked in retail at Rubin's Dry Goods Store in Summerton and later at Kramer's Pharmacy in Summerville. She earned her practical nurse's certification and became a caregiver for the sick and elderly. After her children became older, she combined homemaking with childcare where she actively participated in the rearing of several of her grandchildren and other friend's children. Miriam was a member of both the Summerton Presbyterian Church and the Summerville Presbyterian Church. She was an active participant in the Women of the Church, and the Ladies Circle. She also served as a volunteer at the Summerville Presbyterian Home and with Meals on Wheels. In recent years, she took up bridge and played regularly with her bridge club. Dee Dee was well-known for her gardening, sewing and cooking. She loved her flowers. Moreover, she taught herself to sew and made her children's clothes, curtains, even a wedding dress for one of her daughters. She was quite a cook, and early in life, often sold her cakes and pies. As a collector of glassware, she acquired quite an assortment of depression glass and antique bottles, some of which were dug from her own property. Miriam's family was the center of her life. In addition to her beloved husband of 58 years, Dickey, Miriam is survived by her six children; four daughters, Miriam (Doodle) Dingle Simpson and her husband, Harvey; Catherine (Pap) Dingle Young and her husband, Jerry; Mildred (Lassie) Dingle Murray and her husband, Steve; and Julie Dingle Swanson; two sons, Dickey Rutledge Dingle, Jr., and his wife, Barbara, and Thomas William (Bill) Dingle and his wife, Edith; ten grandchildren; Mandy, Walsh and Tommy Dingle, Brad, Matthew and Brook Young, Carrie and Catherine Simpson, and Emma and Reah Dingle; her daughter-in-law, Becky Dingle; her son-in-law, Tino Swanson; her two brothers and her two sisters; and one special sister-in-law, Juline Brunson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at Summerville Presbyterian Church, Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2005, at 4 o'clock. Interment is at Summerville Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Summerville Presbyterian Church this Tuesday afternoon from 3 o'clock until time of service.
