Dear Matthew and Michelle,
My heart is extremely heavy upon hearing the news of your Dad's sudden passing. I learned of the news today in a letter sent to me by a close mutual friend, Jamie Bigelow of Summerville. Jamie introduced me to Michael thirty years ago on Talon Ct. and from that point on, I knew I had a friend for life. His kindness was unmatched, his wit was unsurpassed and his laugh was infectious. We spoke on the phone just last month, as we talked about another upcoming reunion. Matthew, I would always call you 'sonny-boy' whenever I would visit from out of town, knowing it would make Michael laugh. Michelle, that boat ride Michael took us on to Morris Island lighthouse with your out of town friend is a lasting memory. From the top of the lighthouse, we could see Michael bobbing in the boat below and the picture he took of us at the top of the lighthouse hangs in my house today. That fun filled day will be with me forever. He always made be feel like family. Occasionally, I would refer to Michael as the unoffical 'Mayor' of Charleston due to the warmth and kindness he demonstrated to everybody. A true southern gentleman, one who will be sorely missed. I feel extremely lucky in knowing your Dad, Michael; I will cherish our friendship forever. God bless you both. Peace!!

It seems like only yesterday when all of the new students walked into a new school called "College Prep". Our parents had established this new school and had high hopes for all of us. One thing they did not realize they were creating were the memories which would last for years. My fondest memory is of a kid named Michael Storen who possessed the ability to make everyone around him laugh and smile. On, those antics in Madame Young's French class with Michael's interpretation of the French language. Michael also never separated the "above Broad" and the "below Broad" students. We were all his classmates and friends.

To you, Michael's children and family, know that Michael will always be remembered for his kindness and wit. We never understand why God calls such good people at such an early age. I believe he needed a Michael Angel, and Michael answered his call.

Rest in peace, my dear former classmate. Your smile will forever be with us.

To the Storen family,
On page 20 of the 1968 yearbook for College Prep is a photo that displays Michael's unique spirit. In the center of a group of mostly somber students is Michael, head cocked back and laughing. I'll always remember his spirit and his joy of life and people.

Dear Mrs. Storen, Billy, Louie, and Louisa,
Michael's sudden death brings grief to all that knew him. It seems that in recent years, Michael and I would run into each other in Flat Rock more than we did in Charleston. I would hear this friendly voice saying my name .... and then see a smiling Michael. Joe and I send our most heartfelt sympathy to each of you ... as well as Michael's two children. With fond thoughts and sympathy... Beverly

We are so very sorry to learn of Michael's death. It is not believable that this has happened. We just saw Michael the last time we were at Wadmalaw. Michael was and will always be a part of our Red House memories. Our prayers are with all of you.

When I was a little girl I thought the Storen's were my family and in many ways they were. There were several couples that included the Storens, Simons', Pratt-Thomas', the Silcoxs, Maguires and Ellisons and a few more that were "family" to each other. They shared their offspring and their children with each other during the holidays and other occasions. As I stated, I thought they were my family and I wish my children could have that special time to remember. Micheal was older than us, but he made our lives so fun out there at the Red House on Wadamalaw that we never thought of him as an adult. He was our "Ule Gibbons" and we had the best childhood experiences with him swinging, cutting down X-mas trees and just being kids. He was magical to us and even as adults we always felt that way about him. To Mary, I wish you all the love I have in this world. To Louis, Billy, and Mary Lou and your families thank you for sharing your brother with us. We almost lost my Dad in July and I cannot imagine what you are feeling now. To Michael's children, I know you knew what an extraordinary man he was. Bless you all.

What a wonderful and giving person God has taken from this earth... He only know's why and maybe we will understand the reason God took Michael from us some day. The saying goes Only The Good Die Young, and Michael was really a good person. He alway had a smile on his face, kind word's and a laugh for you everytime you were around him. We are all going to miss him dearly. My family's thought and paryer's are with the Storen's family at such a time of sorrow. My God be with your family during this difficult time.

Dear Matthew,
We are shocked and saddened by the death of your father. He was such a nice man, and he loved you so much. We laugh everytime that we remember his telling the story how he had to chase you down the first summer vacation that you spent downtown. Everyone had just seen you, from the Italian Ice vender to various shop keepers. When he found you, you were riding the bus,and you just waived at him as he followed the bus.
Everyone will miss him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Michelle, and the rest of the family,

Nancy and Les Black

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Michael was always full of fun and laughter. I will forever remember him from giving him a ride home from College Prep, my sister driving the VW Bug, and Michael leaning over turning off the ignition while we were still en route!!! He was a character and made all who knew him smile.

Dearest,Matthew and family of Michael, You all are in my thoughts and prayers as you navigate your way through these difficult times. I was very fond of Michael, and have been comforted by his friendship since we first met as neighbors in 1992. Just two weeks ago we walked along the marsh in my backyard and had one of our typical conversations about the beauty of the lowcountry and how blessed we are to live here. I will always remember him as a kind friend a gentle soul.
Please let me know if I can be of any help now or in the future.
