Michael Ollic Obituary

OLLIC, Michael The Reverend Canon Michael Patrick Ollic, Jr, husband of Dorothy Buse Ollic and a resident of St. Stephen, SC, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 30, 2005. The relatives and friends of The Reverend Canon and Mrs. Michael Patrick Ollic, Jr, are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in The Cathedral Church of Saint Luke and Saint Paul, on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at 11:00 am. Interment, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Yard in St Stephen, SC. Friends may call at the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in St Stephen, SC, Tuesday, November 1, 2005, between 5:30-7:30 pm. The family will receive friends and loved ones in the Wellbrock Hall at The Cathedral Church of Saint Luke and Saint Paul on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, from 9:00 am until the hour of the service. The Reverend Canon Michael P Ollic, Jr., was born May 25, 1929, in Charleston, SC, the son of Michael Patrick Ollic and Thelma Almers Ollic Adams. He was educated in the schools of Charleston and graduated from Porter Military Academy. Father Ollic received a B.A. degree from Newberry College, Newberry, SC, in 1955, then entered the School of Theology, University of the South in Sewanee, TN, where he earned a Graduate in Divinity Degree. In June 1958, he was ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. Father Ollic was ordained to the Priesthood on May 15, 1959, in St. Stephen's Church. In 1961, he became Vicar of Christ Church, Mount Pleasant, St. James, McClellanville, and St. Francis Mission in Huger. While serving these churches, he was also Chaplin at the Porter Gaud School. In 1972, he accepted a call to St. Matthews Church in Fort Motte, SC. In 1980 at the request of Bishop Gray Temple, he returned to St. Stephen and St. James Churches. Shortly after, Bishop Christopher FitzSimons Allison assigned Father Ollic to continue his service in the St. Stephen Church and to begin a new ministry at the Church of the Redeemer, Pineville, SC. Father Ollic would serve these churches until his retirement in 1995. He served the Diocese in many capacities to name a few: Porter Gaud School Board of Trustees; Assistant Secretary of Diocesan Convention; Chairman for the camps and conferences; Director of camp sessions at St. Christopher, Diocesan Council, State of the Church, and Congregational Development. For twenty-five years, he was President of the Protestant Episcopal Society for the Advancement of Christianity in the Diocese of SC of which he was President Emeritus. He was honored with the hanging of a banner in the Cathedral Church, dedicated to his 40 years in the ministry. On June 11, 1993, a service honoring the 35th anniversary of Father Ollic's ordination to the Sacred Order of the Deacons was celebrated at St. Stephen's Church, St. Stephen, SC. At this celebration, Father Ollic was installed as an Honorary Canon in The Cathedral Church of St. Luke and St. Paul, Charleston, SC, by Bishop Edward L. Salmon, Jr., Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina. It is noteworthy that Father Ollic spent his entire ministry in the Diocese of South Carolina. I devoted my ministry to small congregations, getting to know my fellow Christians through joy, sadness, and growing the love and fellowship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God blessed Father Ollic with hands that would touch others in many ways. He knew when God called him to be a disciple that going to college would take much determination with deep faith and trust in God. Hitch hiking to Newberry College was the only way to get there. His love for God and the people he would one day serve encouraged him to continue his journey with Christ. He had a love for woodworking, spending much of his spare time designing and framing cabinetry for homes and altars for several churches including Christ Church, Mt. Pleasant; Saint John's Oakland; Trinity Church, Pinopolis; St. James, Santee; St. John's Berkeley, Strawberry Chapel; St. Augustine, Wedgefield; and The Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul, Charleston. Father Ollic and Miss Dottie, as she is affectionately called, baked cakes and goodies on holidays to share with his church family and friends. He opened and extended his hands offering counsel and handshakes to his many church families and friends. Most importantly, he offered hands of love and guidance, and open arms with hugs to his children and grandchildren. He was a loving, caring, and devoted disciple of God, husband, dad, and Poppy. He was a friend to many. He is survived by his wife of 47 years of St. Stephen, SC, three sons; Michael Patrick Ollic III, and his wife Michelle of St. Stephen, SC, Ehrichs (Rick) Buse Ollic and his wife Cathy, of Bonneau Beach, SC. Robert Jeffrey Ollic Sr, of St. Stephen, one brother, Phillip Ollic of Seneca, SC, six grandchildren, Michael Patrick Ollic IV, Mary Hope Ollic, Christopher Ehrichs Ollic, Benjamin Joel Ollic, Robert Jeffrey Ollic II, and Jennifer Marie Ollic. He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Ollic, and his infant son, Adolph Ehrichs Ollic. Flowers will be accepted at the St. Stephen Episcopal Church or Stuhrs Downtown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Redeemer, P.O. Box 68, Pineville, SC 29468, or the American Diabetes Association, Memorials and Honor Program, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH, 44720. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
