CAPONEGRO, Michael

Colonel Michael Anthony Caponegro, US Army, Ret., 86, husband of Margaret Lacy Boyle Caponegro of Colts Neck, NJ died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in Charleston, SC. A Memorial Service in Charleston will be held in April. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Col. Caponegro was born October 28, 1920 in Montclair, NJ, son of the late Rocco Caponigro and Frances Vitale Caponigro. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and received a Masters Degree from St. Johns University in New York. Col. Caponegro had a distinguished career as an Infantry Officer for approximately 25 years; he was a Professor of Military Science at St. Johns University, establishing the ROTC program there. After his retirement from military service, he was on the faculty and taught at the School of Business at St. Johns. He also served as the Mayor of Colts Neck for more than 10 years. Col. Caponegro was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Colts Neck, NJ and Stella Maris Catholic Church on Sullivans Island, SC. He was a member of the Purple Heart Society, and a member of Wild Dunes Country Club. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Lacy Boyle Caponegro of Colts Neck, NJ; his daughter, Dr. Frances Del Boca and her husband Dr. Robert Del Boca of Chicago, IL; his son, Michael Anthony Caponegro, Jr. and his wife Mary Anne of O'Fallon, IL; step-daughter, Lorri Burton and her husband John of Colts Neck, NJ; step-son, John Boyle, Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one granddaughter, Ramona Caponegro of Gainesville, FL; three step-grandchildren, John Burton, Jr., Brian Burton, Caitlin Burton, all of Colts Neck, NJ; two sisters, Josephine Priapi of Jacksonville, FL, and Grace Hunt of Lompoc, CA; three brothers, Rocco Caponigro of Richmond, VA, Alfred Caponigro of Ocean, NJ and Sonny Caponigro of Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, One Intrepid Square, West 46th Street and 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10036.
