I was honored to get to know Max, if only briefly. It was clear that he
was a very loving and dedicated father and grandfather. His children
and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he was selfless in giving
them all that he could. In the short time I knew him it was also clear
that he was a brilliant man, dedicated to medicine, and science more
broadly. He sacrificed much in his service to his country, yet seemed
always to feel privileged and proud to have done so. I know that Max
was dearly loved by his family, and will always be remembered and held
closely in their hearts. He touched my heart as well, and for that, I will always be grateful.
