Mary Jane was the definition of a "hoot". She was a lot of fun to travel with.

Well one event that came to mind immediately was, Mary Jane and I attended a house warming party of a mutual friend (Tonya) neither one of us knew that there was a pool at the friends new place so we didn't bring swim suits. She looked at me and said "I ain't scared, how about you? With that said we both jumped in fully clothed and floated around that pool for at least an hour.

Howard Family, We were so sorry to read of the passing of your mother and grandmother. We lived two doors from MaryJane and Vaughn for almost 20 years. Vaughn was the first person to welcome us, a young couple with a toddler and a newborn, to the neighborhood. There are some fond memories of those first years; especially the North Pinepoint Civic Assn. gatherings. May your memories sustain you in the days ahead. Our deepest sympathy. Peace to you all. MJ and I had some wonderful, warm and fuzzy moments . I thought of her as my second mom and loved her for her warmth and humor. I have 2 very special memories:
The roosters... Mom loved to visit the thrift shops. One day she decided I loved roosters. When she would find a colorful rooster, it would be presented to me as gift. She would then tell me where to place the rooster so my visitors could enjoy. After about 4 roosters, I ran out of room. Then one day I was handed a framed picture of a rooster she had colored. It is now a signed treasured piece of art.
Our birthdays - Were close enough together that we would celebrate our birthdays on the same day. My birthday was on Christmas Eve and I would have a birthday party. She sat beside me at the table and we would blow out the candles together. She would laugh and say this is `my´ birthday cake - needless to say she got the biggest piece along with a great big hug.
MJ made a difference in so many lives. She leaves a legacy of kindness and love ... I am grateful that I was allowed to be part of the family. She will be missed.
To the family I offer my heartfelt support and friendship in this difficult time.

I spent countless hours at the Howard household in my teen years, and your mom was like another mother to me then. She was a wonderful, kind person and I´ll always think of her fondly. She did a great job raising George, Kenny, Bobo and Bebe, and you have my sincere condolences

So many wonderful memories of visiting with the Howard family in Charleston. After Hugo, I enjoyed riding around with Mrs. Howard to make sure her employees were ok and took supplies to them. She loved everyone and all animals, but no ugly trucks. She was loved and will be missed.

Cathy what a beautiful write up. Your mom had quite a life I remember when you and your mom evacuated Charleston for a hurricane with a car full of cats. Take care

Mom and I always joked we were twins born 28 years apart. I miss my twin and will carry our memories forever in my heart. Best mom and friend ever. Love, Be.
