Mary Spearman Obituary

SPEARMAN, Mary LANE - Mary Rebecca Ligon Spearman passed away at home on February 22, 2006. During her fifty-six years, she was a patriotic Army wife, a business woman, a farmer, a musician, a dear friend, a teacher, and a traveler. She was a loving mother to her two children and to many others around the United States and Germany. She described herself as a good Presbyterian and firmly believed that God has a plan for each of us. She became a community leader everywhere she lived. Everyone who came to know her fell in love with her and she returned that love. She is survived by her husband, US Army Col. (Ret) John E. Spearman, Jr. and her two children, Edward Vaughn Spearman of Ridgeland, SC and Caroline Ligon Spearman of Nashville, TN. Mary Rebecca was currently serving in the following positions in her community, Lay Representative, New Harmony Presbetery Mission Div, Vice President American Legion Auxiliary Post 8, Kingstree, Vice President, Green Thumb Garden Club, and Vice Moderator, Presbyterian Women, Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m., Saturday in the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friend immediately following the services in the church fellowship hall. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given either to the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church Organ Fund or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at 1-866 FIND A CURE (346-3228). Williamsburg Funeral Home in Kingstree is assisting the Spearman family. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

John, I was saddened to read of Mary Becca's death. So many memories of the hours the three of us spent together working on The Sphinx came flooding over me. I knew from that moment what a remarkable and special person Mary Becca was and that the two of you were a match made in Heaven. It was so good to see both of you at the 30th reunion. Please know that Pam's and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

To John, Caroline, and Edward: I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this rough time. MR was a second mother to me in many different states, and I will never forget the things that she has taught me through out the years. I saw her help my family as well and could not thank her enough for being there when we were going through rough times in our lives. She always had a way of understanding and being there for everyone she came across. She was a real inspiration to me and someone who I looked up to. I aspire to have the same characteristics as she possesed. I wish you guys all the best and I hope you keep in touch. Love you all.
