Mary Platt Obituary

Mary Catherine Platt LEXINGTON, SC - Mary Catherine "Kitty" Platt, wife of John Edward "Jack" Platt, in Lexington SC, entered into eternal rest the morning of July 27, 2023. The family held a private service in her home on July 30, 2023. Mrs. Platt's interment will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in North Charleston, SC. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel. Mrs. Platt was born October 20, 1934, in Charleston, SC, daughter of Robert L McElhenney Sr. and Beulah "Tootsie" McElhenney. She attended Charleston area schools and graduated from Chicora High School. She is survived by her husband, John Edward Platt, of Lexington SC. Mr. and Mrs. Platt recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on December 19. She is also survived by two daughters, Debra Ann Ellis (Rodney) of Sumter and Linda Denise Matthews (James Jr.) of Gilbert; one brother, Robert L McElhenney Jr "Buddy" of Mount Pleasant, and four grandchildren: Tara Yates of Rochester, NY, Mary Vosburgh of Hanahan, Millie Norton of Sumter and James III "Trey" Matthews of Columbia and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Platt was pre-deceased by her parents, Robert and Beulah McElhenney and one sister, Gloria Miller. She will be sadly missed by all.
