Mary Kent Obituary

Mary Frances (Fran) Gill Kent MT. PLEASANT - Mary Frances (Fran) Gill Kent, 91, passed away on April 18, 2025. She was a military wife and homemaker who enjoyed riding and showing Tennessee Walker horses in her youth and sewing, cooking and traveling as an adult. Fran was born in Humboldt, TN on September 15, 1933, a daughter of the late George Preston Gill and Mary Katherine Owen Gill. She was a 1949 graduate of Franklin High School, Franklin, TN. She earned an Associate in Arts degree at Stephens College, Columbia, MO and a Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design) degree from the University of Florida, where she met her future husband, Richard (Dick) B. Kent. After Fran and Dick graduated from the University of Florida, they were married on June 8, 1955 in Gainesville, FL. They immediately left for Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, where Dick entered the United States Air Force. During his career, Fran was very active in the Officer's Wives Clubs, where she held the office of President at Hunter AFB, Savannah, GA and Hahn AB, Germany. She was also a manager of the Wive's Club's boutique at Clark AB, Philippines. Fran's husband and son, Richard B. Kent, Jr., predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Kent McLean, and son-in-law, William E. McLean and their children, William, Arabella, John, Milana and Henry. Funeral arrangements are private and she will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.
