Dear Dave, Drew, Ellen and Janet,
We are so saddened by the news of Mary Ann
s passing, Dave, you and Mary Ann made us part of your family on many special holidays. Red cabbage and Silly Santa have become part of our family's traditions because of your marvelous and gracious hospitality, Those moments together in fellowship and affection linger with us.
At Archmere Mary Ann was an inspiration for all teachers. Her energy, wit and creativity were a force in the classroom and out of it. Fueled by her endless curiosity, she was always looking for a method or approach that would enhance the students love of learning and, in particular, joy in history. I could only standby and applaud when she introduced lessons of art history into the curriculum for her history students. She always offered her friendship and support to me and other faculty members. Mary Ann was the real deal!
Our sympathy is with you all as you deal with Mary Ann's passing.
God Bless,
Patricia and Gerry Appleton

Mr. Barnard, Ellen and Drew,
Although I did not have Mrs. Barnard as a teacher, I knew her mostly through my sister, Jen(Deeble) Kilicoglu. Mr. Barnard- you were the admissions person I met with as a nervous wreck of a soon-to-be 11th grader. You were kind and patient and it made me feel comfortable and welcomed. Ellen- you came to our home in Wilmington a few times. Once at Christmas time you helped us decorate our tree. I remember your smile and infectious laugh. Drew- I knew you through my sister's stories.
What a wonderful wife and mom and what a life of service.
Wishing you all comfort and peace,
Lynne Eckbold

Dear Mr. Barnard,
I was so sorry to read of Mrs. Barnard's passing. I have such fond memories of her as the Girls Counselor. In the the Fall of 1974, as a terrified Freshman in the first days of co-education at Archmere, Mrs. Barnard's warm smile and easy laugh, made me realize that everything would be okay.
I also have fond memories of your Creative Writing class, which was one of my favorite courses while at Archmere.
You and your family will remain in my prayers.

It is great sadness that we learn of Mary Ann's passing. She meant so much to me, having worked alongside her (and David) for over 20 years at Archmere. She was devoted.
My daughter Alison revered Mary Ann because she helped her so much.I t was how she cared, especially for those who needed it the most. There was so much depth to her spirit.
I extend our family's sympathy to David and to Andrew and Ellen, whom I taught Art to, as well as to all the Grandchildren.
Very Fondly,

David & family,
We are blessed in so many ways that Mary Ann shared her joy and love with us during her faith journey at Christ Church. We cherish those memories, especially the many occasions of shared meals, delightful conversations, and above all the weekly worship.
We were honored to have shared with your family the great moment of your 50th anniversary. We give thanks that your friendship extended to sharing a couple of our celebrations.
May God's blessings continue in this time of change.
With our love,

I can hear her voice in my head as clearly as 20 years ago, teaching us the themes of history--"absolutism corrupts absolutely" sticks out in my mind, but there are so many more--that inform how her students still view the world to this day. What a gift she gave to all of us.
