Martha Steele Obituary

Martha Jean Steele HANAHAN - It is with profound sadness that the family of Martha Jean Steele, of Hanahan, SC, announce her passing, and her ascent to meet her Lord and Savior on this day, Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born to William Martin Fennell and Jessie Lee Priester Fennell on 08/14/1942, North Charleston, South Carolina. She has been a loving wife, and Mother. She will be missed by her, dedicated husband, Donald Lynn Steele, SR, of 64 years; her son, Donald Lynn Steele, JR., (Michon); daughter, Michelle Steele Carter, (Gerald White, Dominic Lang-white); and an infant son, who preceded her in death, at birth, Charles Rush Steele; Grandchildren: Donald Lynn Steele III (Megan Carter), Jacob Tyler Steele; along with a toddler, Miranda Steele who preceded her in death at the age of 2.: Great-grandchild: Donald Lynn Steele IV (Donnie); Martha is preceded in death by her siblings- oldest brother, William "Willie" Martin Fennell Jr (surviving wife, Willis Harrington Fennell); brother, Daragon Derrell, "Pete" Fennell, (surviving wife-Judy Timmons Fennell); Sisters: Ann "SweetPea" Fennell Pierpoint, (surviving husband, Russ), and Sue LaMargo "Margo" Fennell; Surviving step-sister- Marie Fennell Bunch, (James); and step-brothers- Joseph "Joey" Fennell,(Kathy) Mark "Skeeter" Fennell, (Sandy). Martha graduated from North Charleston High School, 1961, (Go Blue Devils). She was married 07/01/1961 to Donald Lynn Steele, SR. She became a hair stylist after attending Farrah's Beauty Salon School early seventies, after several years, of styling hair, she resigned and started Electronics training and certification. She was employed as an electronics specialist for over 35 years in Charleston, SC. She worked on government contracts for the military, with high security clearance, at Philco, Mictronics and Milcom Systems. She enjoyed family gatherings, dedicating herself to her family and friends, baking (Coconut Cream Pie), camping (Myrtle Beach), sewing, gardening, butterflies, and participating in church activities (Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church 50+ years). In addition to her immediate family, Martha is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anne Steele Farley; brother-in-law, Johnnie Steele (Barbara Farmer Steele) her close family in faith. She also will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A visitation and ceremony will be held at Stuhr's Funeral Home, Northwoods Chapel, Monday, December 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM, and graveside burial service to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens, Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, at 5931 Murray Drive Hanahan, SC 29410.
