Martha Drum Obituary

Martha Lee Bost Drum OXNARD, CA - Born on the 5th of July, 1951 in Concord, North Carolina, Martha was the daughter of Buford Lynn Bost, Jr and Margaret Stuart Caldwell Bost. She was the namesake of her great-aunt, Martha Caldwell Love also of Concord, NC. In the wee hours of June 12th, 2016, Martha passed peacefully at her Channel Islands home surrounded by family. She joins her soulmate and the love of her life of over 36 years, Robert Weich, Jr. who predeceased her in January 2015. Martha grew up on Edisto Beach, SC and graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1970. Answering a calling from her country, Martha joined the US Navy during wartime (Vietnam War) and proudly served from 1970-1973. She served with the Presidential Staff on Air Force One when President Nixon was in office. She traveled to Greece, recalling that she had some of the best times of her life there. In 1976 Martha moved to Camarillo, CA where she began a long career in the banking industry. She was confident, she was determined, she was precise. She excelled at her work as a Banking Compliance Officer and Risk Officer with Banks and Savings & Loans across Ventura County from 1976 until 2013. Her last career position was with The Bank of Santa Barbara as Vice President Bank Secrecy Act Officer from 2013 until April 2015. Martha is survived by: siblings: Buford Lynn Bost, III (Beth) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Margaux Bost Corbin (Rusty) of Yonges Island, SC; Marie Caldwell Bost (Jerome) of Edisto Beach, SC; and Mary Elizabeth Bost Howse (Richard) of Concord, NC, nieces: Christina Lynn Bost, Leslie Corbin Savage (Todd), Melissa Corbin Williams (Kevin), nephews: Stuart Lynn Bost, Dustin Russell Corbin (Ashley), Jon Jerome Kizer, Daniel Lee Reed (Brittany), 3 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews. Martha was an extremely private person who loved spending time in her Channel Islands home with Bob and sailing their "Lil Sailboat". Her happiest times were when they were together; especially taking the boat for sunset cruises, sunrise breakfasts, or just being alone together at their home overlooking the marina. Her second love was her career; one she enjoyed and was proficient at. Dedicated is a good word for Martha as she could often be seen on her deck on weekends working on compliance files with her beloved cat "Tigger" by her side. Her neighbor and friend Bill says "Martha could be seen every morning at 8:00am on the deck of her home standing at attention with her hand over her heart as the Star Spangled Banner played during reveille at Port Hueneme; she always followed with a salute." Martha had many associates, friends (on both the West and East Coasts), and neighbors that she would like to sincerely thank for their contributions to her life. In lieu of flowers, Martha has requested that they make a donation to The American Cancer Society or conduct a random act of kindness for someone who is less fortunate than they. "She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings" Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Dear Marty. My thoughts and prayers are with you today, on your birthday. You were my honorary big sister, my mentor and my friend. We always talked about going back to the Carolinas together so that I could meet all your sisters and it is with profound sadness that we never had the opportunity. I treasure our work trips to Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. and had so much fun together there. I thank God that our son Mason had the opportunity to meet you, such a remarkable and strong lady. We have lost a beautiful friend but Heaven has gained an Angel. My condolences and prayers to Marty's family. I will miss hearing your voice Marty. Love you, Amy

I met Martha at the local grief group in Oxnard last year and began driving together since we lived so close. We enjoyed each other's company while together talking about the loss of our partners and the dreaded word of cancer. I am happy that we had a good long chat in early April and I will miss talking with her on the phone. My condolences to her family.

Marty was one of the first people I met when I first started working at SBBT and I thought that surely she was my guardian angel sent to help me. She became my bff at work and helped me all through the years there. She will be missed. My condolences to the family. How blessed we all were to know her

It is with true sadness that our banking industry lost such a precious one. I never met a more sincere person than Marty, when she asked how are you, she really wanted to no. To her family my condolences, and "with that said" she will be missed by many, Y'all....RIP Marty

I am still in shock after reading about this in the paper. I worked with Marty at Santa Paula Savings and Loan and then lived with her from 1984-1992 up until the day I got married. She was one of a kind and the best roommate ever. We had sooo many fun times together and lots of laughs. Although I hadn't seen her in a few years we reconnected when Bob passed away last year. We were going to meet for dinner or drinks and just to catch up and sadly we never did. Marty, I love you and you will always have a place in my heart! You are a true angel in heaven now. LOVE YOU!

It is with profound sadness that I learn of Marty's passing. We worked side by side at Santa Barbara Bank & Trust and carpooled many days together along the ocean. Marty always had a lovely smile and a kind word no matter what the circumstance was. She put others first and truly enriched my life. My sincere and loving thoughts are with her family.

Marty was truly one of a kind! Everyone she ever came in contact with became a better person! I remember Marty use to say "having said that"...to this day, when ever I hear those three words I look over my shoulder to see if she's standing there! Rest in peace you beautiful lady!! Xoxo
