Mark Kaye Obituary

Mark Alan Kaye MT. PLEASANT - Mark Alan Kaye, 68, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, beloved husband of Patty Kaye, entered into eternal life on February 18, 2024, after a sudden illness. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 24, at 11:00 AM at St. Benedict's Catholic Church on 950 Darrell Creek Trail in Mt. Pleasant. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. Mark was born June 4, 1955, in Schenectady, New York, the only child of Carl George Kurowski and Rita Elizabeth Vines Kurowski. He grew up in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Schenectady where he attended Mount Carmel Elementary School and graduated from the Technical Program of Mount Pleasant High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Siena College and his Master of Science degree in Communications from the State University of New York at Albany. He accepted a position as a communications leader at the GE Research and Development Center in Niskayuna, NY, and as a technical writer at the GE Machinery Apparatus Operation before pursuing his true passion for teaching as a GED instructor in the Albany, NY BOCES program and later as a high school math teacher in Greenville, SC, and a community college instructor at Naugatuck Valley Community College in Naugatuck, CT. Mark was a volunteer at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, NY, and later at Roper Saint Francis Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Mark was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville, NY, and most recently of St. Benedict's Parish in Mt. Pleasant, SC. While attending Siena College in Loudonville, NY, Mark met and married Patty, the love of his life. They welcomed a son, Ian, and daughter, Gillian, and raised them in Burnt Hills, NY, and Greenville, SC. The family treasured their many weekends and vacations at their Sacandaga Lake, NY, log home, where they made countless beautiful memories together boating, swimming and exploring the woods and beaches. "Camp" was a central feature of their lives which always remained "home" as the family migrated from New York to South Carolina and later to Connecticut, where both children became graduates of the University of Connecticut. Mark will always be remembered for his endless good humor and optimistic outlook, always a source of delight and entertainment for family and friends. Mark enjoyed many hobbies, especially restoring automobiles and motorcycles and repairing small engines. He had a serious passion for Harley Davidsons and was a proud owner and rider for more than thirty years. He enjoyed nothing more than a summer evening ride with Patty. Mark also was a lifelong animal lover and the family raised many pets, including their four cherished Airedale terriers and a menagerie of rabbits and birds. After retiring with Patty to Mt. Pleasant, SC, in 2017, Mark became a fixture in the Masonborough, Park West neighborhood greeting and treating the many dogs who passed his driveway each day and admiring the local deer and wildlife. Mark was a member of St. Benedict's Parish in Mt. Pleasant. Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Patty; his son, Ian Karl Kaye (Melesia) of St. Augustine, FL; and daughter, Gillian Patrice (Gabriel) of Manchester, TN; and grandchildren, Harrison and Grayson Kaye and Senua and Ronan Gomar. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark's memory can be made to: Sunnyview Hospital Foundation, 1270 Belmont Avenue, Schenectady, NY 12308, or Building Fund, Saint Benedict Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I worked with Mark at his two GE jobs. His sense of humor was the bright point in many a day of drudgery. My deepest sympathy to his family.
