Mark Cumins Obituary

Mark Jeffrey Cumins CHARLESTON - Mark Jeffrey Cumins, 66, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Noula Tassios Cumins, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 5, 2023. His funeral service will be held graveside Friday, October 13, 2023 in Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Mark was born December 11, 1956 in Augusta, Georgia, son of the late Jerome Cumins and Phyllis Levy Cumins. He was a successful businessman, restauranteur, and philanthropist. He and his business partner, Jerry Scheer, have been a significant part of the fabric of not only the Charleston community, but also communities across the southeast for nearly four decades. For all his success, he remained a humble man who only cared about bringing joy and laughter to the people around him. He had the unique ability to connect with people and make them feel special. Above all else, he was the most loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, and he enriched the lives of all he encountered. No matter where he found himself in the world, he never met a stranger. Mark will be missed beyond measure. Mark is survived by his wife of 17 years, Noula; two sons: Jakob Cumins and Joshua Cumins, all of Charleston, SC; three sisters: Ilene Turbow of Charleston, SC, Joan Arazie (Sam) of Augusta, GA, and Cindy Brams (Joe) of Charleston, SC; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and his two dogs, Sebastian and Poppy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mark & Noula Cumins Nursing Scholarship at the Roper St. Francis Foundation, 100 Calhoun Street, Suite 210, Charleston, SC 29401. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I have a few very great memories of Mark, and he was someone who always impressed me with his thoughtfulness and charm. A wonderful person, who gave me a few PEARLZ of wisdom which I live by daily... I only had a brief encounter with an amazing guy, but it will be with me forever.

Very sad. Condolences to the family. Met Mark at TBonz in early 90´s and also a friend of my cousin Melanie. Had a chance meeting with him 1 night in Greece when he was on one of his motorcycle adventures there. Greatly missed.

One of the most generous people in the City of Charleston. I remember meeting Mark approximately 20 years ago when he hosted children from the Carolina Youth Development organization for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. He made every person who walked into the restaurant feel like they were the most important person in the world. At the Christmas lunch, these children were offered an opportunity to visit "Santa Clause" to pick out a new toy of their choice. The children drew numbers from a hat to determine when their private opportunity would be available. When they went through the doors to the "gift room" their eyes would expand as large as dinner plates when they saw all of the brand-new toys that ranged from dolls to bicycles to boom boxes to baseball gloves to footballs to gifts that previously they could only imagine. Now they were able to put their hands on the item of their choice and take it home to the Carolina Youth Development Center to complete their Christmas day - oh yes, Mark had everything planned perfectly - even the most perfect Santa Clause in Police Chief Rubin Greenberg. What a guy! He will definitely be missed by hundreds and thousands of people that he has left with a positive, sometimes life altering, experience. My deepest sympathy to his family in their time of bereavement.

Mark where do I begin words could never express how I´m feeling right now over and through the years you have been a positive, inspirational man in my life and I´ll always remember you and appreciate you for always being there for me to listen when I needed an ear to hear and to give me the best advice you could. I will always have a missing part of me when I go into work. I will always remember when I was in the hospital and you took the time to come visit me not because you had to but because you cared. You told those doctors to take care of me because you worked for me not the other way around. You will always be an awesome outstanding guy who really cares and I´m truly gonna miss you

I met Mark in early 1990 at his West Ashley T Bonz, I had just moved to Charleston. We had a great conversation and just clicked. My wife and I frequented his restaurants and periodically ran into him and a great conversation. I just saw him at Windermere and we caught up talking about our kids and golf. This news is sad for me and my prayers go out to his family and friends. Bless you Mark!

Thanks for creating the company that gave me the opportunity for management despite having no management experience. You allowed me to move to greener pastures. I met you once when you visited Liberty in the Vista. Rest in Peace and I wish your family and loved once peace and good memories.

Our deepest condolences to the Cumins family. We met Mark when our sons attended Buist. We will always remember his cool and suave demeanor ( wearing that cap backwards :-) ) that went along with his warm smile and genuine personality.
