Margaret Shieder Obituary

Margaret Shieder HARLEYVILLE, SC - Margaret Utsey Shieder, 89, widow of Hubert Shieder, passed away peacefully at her home in Harleyville on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. Margaret was born on September 20, 1936, the daughter of the late Mr. Laurence and Ms. Alma Utsey. Throughout her life, Margaret held many roles, including bookkeeper for the family businesses in Harleyville and Santee. She also served as Financial Secretary at First Harleyville Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she was a devoted lifetime member. Margaret cherished time with her daughters, Paula Herman and Melissa Jenkins, and her grandchildren and her precious Piper. A proud, lifelong Clemson Tiger fan, she and her husband, Hubert, traveled to games across the country - and even to Japan. She continued attending Clemson games until age 80. Margaret's life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters, Paula S. Herman (Otey) and Melissa S. Jenkins (Gary), all of Santee; grandchildren, Kevin Herman (Lawren Love), Boulder, CO, Kimberly Herman (Glenn Hughes), Greenbelt, MD, Jimmy Jenkins (Kristen), Simpsonville, SC and Meredith O'Neil (Matthew), Cincinnati, OH; and great-granddaughter, Piper Jenkins. Visitation will be held at First Harleyville Methodist Church October 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m., led by Pastor Robert Hoover. Burial will follow at Harleyville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Jenkins, Matthew O'Neil, Joe Zielinski, Jeff Westbury, Bruce Blanchard and Bill Ridgill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Harleyville Methodist Church.
