James Shieder Obituary

James Shieder St. George, SC - James Willard Shieder, 73, of Grover entered into eternal rest Friday, May 20, 2016 at his home. Visitation will be Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 3:00-6:00 at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George, SC. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Grover United Methodist Church, Grover, with Pastors Melvin Bell and Robert C. Clyburn officiating. Burial will follow at Utsey Cemetery in Grover. Pallbearers will be Todd Murray, Ernest Jackson, Allen Shelley, Keith Hutto, Ray Roberson and Pinckney Murray. James was born in Dorchester County, a son of Willard and Bessie Evelyn Shieder. Surviving is his wife and best friend of 48 years, Mevelyn F. Shieder; from their love story came four daughters: Hallie (Dustin) Austin of Cross, Jodie (Lee) Buford of Greenville, Kerrie (Jimmy) Mitchum of Grover, and Jamie Stroble of Grover. He also has a brother, Lynwood (Vonnie) Shieder of Grover. He also leaves behind the nine jewels in his crown, his grandchildren: Taylor Westbury, Rachel Westbury, Dylan Austin, Hannah Buford, Sarah Buford, "J" Mitchum, Ben Mitchum, Kaitlin Stroble and Megan Stroble. And, although there is no blood relation, he leaves behind a "son", Todd Murray of Grover, who has been such a treasure in his life. James was a member of Grover United Methodist, where he served as past treasurer, Chairman of the Board, and Trustee, as well as a member of the United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Lowcountry Cattlemen's Association, where he was a past board member. He founded and served as president of the J.W. Shieder Dove Club in Grover. In 2005, he retired from teaching, having taught math at Summerville High School for 25 years. Memorials may be made to Grover United Methodist Church, 1912 Highway 15 South, St. George, SC 29477.
