Madelyn Brown Obituary

Madelyn Ackerman Brown COTTAGEVILLE, SC - Mrs. Madelyn Ackerman Brown, wife of the late David Brown, died Monday at the Uni-Health Post Acute Care Center in Walterboro. She was 81. Mrs. Brown was born July 10, 1933 in Charleston, a daughter of the late George W. Ackerman and Sallie Mae Warren Ackerman. She attended Coker College and the Baptist College in Charleston, but received her degree in music from Columbia College. She was a music teacher in the Cottageville schools, and was a secretary in her family's business, Ackerman Well Drilling. She was a lifelong member of the Cottageville Baptist Church and was the church pianist for many years. She is survived by a brother, William Warren "Buddy" Ackerman, Sr. and wife Christine, of Cottageville, and by two nephews, Billy Ackerman and George Ackerman. There are a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Kutta. The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to her devoted caregivers and friends, Virginia Walker and Betty Moore. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday at the Ackerman Cemetery at Red Oak. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Cottageville Baptist Church or to the Ackerman Cemetery.
