I was going through old letters and grades ( my mom saved all of them). I saw several notes from Mr Torrey who was my teacher and advisor while I was at Hotchkiss. He was the best teacher and a critical touch stone during my Hkiss years.
After reading all the Hkiss notes, I searched for him, and was saddened to learn he had passed.
He was a great man with a big heart.
Thoughts and prayers for the family.

What an incredible human being Tor was. I’m honored to have been taught by him, teased by him, and inspired by him. I can see him throwing a chalk eraser across the room and screaming at us that (we) “need to start our essays with a CANNONBALL!” He changed the way countless Hotchkiss students like me looked at literature, writing, and the world around us. Tor was the the definition of Curiosity, Perception, and Joy... and he was simply one of a kind. Sending warm thoughts to his friends and family in the wake of this loss. May God keep you close, Tor... I know you’ll keep him entertained! —Andy Breuer ‘96—

Susan and I send our love and condolences to you, Genie, and all the family. We loved Blair. And what he meant to me, as to so many, can't be measured. I would certainly not be a teacher without his immediate faith in me, all those decades ago, and without his own joyful devotion to books and students. He was a model of so much.

My deepest sympathies to the Torrey family. Mr. Torrey was an incredible inspiration to me in the classroom and on the ice at Hotchkiss. He was an amazing mentor and friend.
