Louis Kornahrens Obituary

Louis Edward Kornahrens, Jr. CHARLESTON - Louis Edward "Eddie" Kornahrens, Jr., 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Fiona Margaret Funderbug Kornahrens, entered into heaven in the early morning hours of January 21, 2024. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in St. Philips Church, 142 Church St., Charleston SC, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Hall. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Eddie was born in Charleston, SC, on January 10, 1943. He had a unique talent to make everyone he met feel special because he truly believed they were. No matter where Eddie was, or what group he was with, he fit in perfectly...loved by men and women alike. His exuberant personality was evident to all, but Eddie also had a deep, contemplative side. He began each morning on his knees, humbled before God as he fervently prayed for his children, grandchildren and others in need. Eddie counted his blessings and was grateful for all he had received. I think of him as a great teacher, lessons of life not presented with words but with the example of the life he lead. Eddie was uncompromising in the virtues he held dear: honesty, integrity and courage. He was fearless in standing up for what he believed. Eddie had a sixth sense about people and their intentions which may have saved his life on more than one occasion while serving in law enforcement. Whatever the injury inflicted, he practiced forgiveness knowing that we all stumble on this journey. As Eddie entered the last phase of his life, he reflected on his earlier years questioning his purpose. The rearview mirror allows us to see things more clearly than the fog of the present. It became apparent to Eddie that his life was a life of service: service to his country (National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve); to his state (State Highway Patrol), to his county (Charleston County Sheriff), to his city (Washington Light Infantry; Sumter Guard, German Friendly Society); and also to his family and friends. From this reflection he consciously dedicated the remainder of his life to the service of others. Almost every phone call would end with him asking, "Is there anything you need or that I can do for you?" And so it is that Eddie became one of the richest of men for his friends were many, the true treasures of a life well lived. While we mourn his loss, we must also celebrate his life and the impact he had on our hearts. Eddie is survived by his wife of 10 years, Fiona; a daughter, Kathleen Campbell (Patrick) of Johns Island, SC; a son, Scott Kornahrens of Omaha, NE; two brothers: Johnny Kornahrens (LaRae) of Charleston, SC, and Michael Kornahrens (Jeanette) of Taylors, SC; one sister, Patricia Mead of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street, Charleston, SC 29401. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I consider Eddie a dear friend. He had a beautiful smile and a caring heart. If you had the pleasure of meeting Eddie, no matter what the Occasion, he would refer to you as his friend. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He will be missed by all that had the good fortune to know him. " if a man be measured by the number of friends he has, he would be the richest man in the world". Eddie was a very wealthy man !! My condolences to his family and friends.

The world was a better place for having had Eddie in it. He was a groomsman in our wedding in 1973, and this well-respected sheriff was the life of the party!
It was an honor to know him. He served his community, county and state well. Lifting prayers for the entire family. May you find peace and even smiles in your memories of him.

My condolences to the Kornahrens Family for your loss of Eddie. I was saddened to read his obituary in the Post and Courier. I enjoyed stopping at Royal Auto Sales to visit with Eddie every time I came to Chasn. Then I would continue down Dorchester Rd to Michael´s Upholstery shop and see him also. Sometimes I got lucky and saw Johnnie there also. I miss the good ole days. I am very happy that you all were part of my life.

What a loss to this city. I met Eddie in 1960 when he was a downtown city cop. Sometime I would not see him for 10 plus years and when I saw him it was like I saw him yesterday. If only the world had more men like him oh what a place it would be. Thoughts and prayers to all his family and friends. Peace to all.
