Linda Wheeler-Smith Obituary

Linda N. Wheeler-Smith USAF (Ret.) SHELBY, NC - Linda N. Wheeler-Smith, 58, of Shelby, N.C., died Thursday, May 03, 2012 after a short illness at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. TSGT Wheeler-Smith served her country honorably and proudly for 20 years as a Morse Systems Supervisor and Information Management Specialist. She was stationed at Keesler AFB, Mississippi; Clark AFB, Philippines; Iraklion AFS, Crete; San Antonio, Texas; Taiwan, Misawa AFB, Japan; Kunia, Hawaii; Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX; Kadena AFB, Okinawa; and Ft. George G Meade, MD. She was awarded five Air Force Commendation Medals, an Air Force Achievement Medal, five Air Force Outstanding Unit awards, six Air Force Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. Her hobbies included fishing, watching movies, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her son Aaron Wheeler, daughter-in-law Carrie Wheeler, grandson Quinn Wheeler, and granddaughter Camdyn Wheeler of Ankeny, Iowa; Sister Dotty Leatherwood and family of Shelby, NC; and Brother Bob Lanning and family of Concord, NC. A small family service was held at the Leatherwood home Thursday, May 03, 2012 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Len Byers leading the service.
