Born in Houston, Texas, on August 26, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Henry Ritch Callaway and Sarah Lucille Lyon Callaway. As a young girl her family returned to her mother's hometown of Columbus, Georgia, where she lived most of her life. In her later years she relocated to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. For the past nine years she was a resident of Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community, where she was blessed with many friendships. She is survived by her son, Robert Eugene Vingi (Elizabeth); her daughter, Kathryn Ritch Vingi Gage (Matt); grandchildren, Marshall Callaway Vingi (Justin), William Rivers Vingi (Marybeth), Louis Malone Vingi (fiance; Caroline), Henry Matthew Gage, and Clara Callaway Gage. Linda attended Wesleyan College and graduated from Auburn University, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She taught elementary school for over 30 years and was co-owner of The Mustard Seed bookstore with her lifelong friend Carolyn Myers. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Georgia, and later Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The family wish to express heartfelt thanks to her caregivers at Bishop Gadsden and Crescent Hospice for their compassion and kindness. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bishop Gadsden Employee Fund. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
