Larry B. Johnson LADSON - On Wednesday, November 09, 2002, Captain Larry Bernard Johnson, 50, of Ladson, South Carolina, and the husband of Mrs. Carla Lumpkin Johnson, won his final battle! Oh, what a joyous occasion it must have been to be reunited with loved ones and to meet Jesus! Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of Praise, 3790 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29418. He will be laid to rest with full honors in Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery, 3715 Azalea Drive, North Charleston, SC 29405. Visitation for Captain Johnson will be on Friday evening, November 18, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral. Captain Johnson was born Wednesday, May 3, 1972 to Mrs. Rosabell Johnson and the late Mr. Larry Johnson. He was their only pride and joy. Larry was educated in the public schools of Charleston and Dorchester Counties. During his time at Summerville High school, he joined the ROTC program. As a child, Larry was trained in the admonition of the Lord. He attended St. James Holiness Church of Deliverance. He often reminisced about his spiritual upbringing and how it impacted his life. Captain Johnson always carried himself in a serious manner. However, he would always share a smile or encouraging words with his family and peers. He was also a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Larry was affectionately known as "LJ". In 1998, he worked with for the Medical University of South Carolina's Department of Public Safety. In 2002, he began his 20-year tenure at the Summerville Police Department. God blessed Larry to excel in his career. He served the community in various capacities; as a Patrolman and a Criminal Investigative commander. Captain Johnson was also a Uniform Patrol Division Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Division Commander. He graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Carolina Command College and the University of Phoenix with an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. Due to his civic-mindedness, the Knights of Columbus nominated him for Police Officer of the Year by the Summerville Police Department in 2006 and 2007. He is the founding member of The Dignity Project and attended the Cathedral of Praise Church in North Charleston. He also leaves two loving children, Makayla Nicole Hartley and Christopher Lawrence Johnson; an uncle, Joe Johnson, cousins, and a host of other relatives, and friends to cherish his memories.
