Katherine Gildea Obituary

Katherine Mary Gildea SUMMERVILLE - Katherine Mary Gildea passed away on the morning of August 22, 2022 at the age of 74 after a long and full life. She is survived by John, her devoted husband of fifty-four years; her two sisters, Annie and Cece; her sons, John, Jake and wife, Helen, and Jimmy and wife, Katie; and her grandchildren, Julie, Ellie, Jacob, and Asher. Kate was born in Omaha, NE on June 21, 1948 and was raised by a large loving family there until moving to the territory of Hawaii with her Uncle Bill and Aunt Maggie. Kate met John in their senior year of high school and they fell in love instantly. They were married by the age of 20 and during her time as a Navy Wife she had nineteen different addresses, three loving children, and countless special experiences all over the world. Kate fell in love with the ocean in the waters of Waikiki, dined at Malacaan Palace in the Philippines, hand picked lobsters off fishing docks in Maine, stood in the Oval Office, and even came face to face with a buffalo in Yellowstone. Despite all of this, Kate's greatest joy always came from a long conversation with whomever she was close enough to talk with. As per Kate's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Her only wish was for her family to sit down and remember her over the dinner table. Anyone who wishes to celebrate her life please gather your families and do the same.
