Joe and I corresponded about our Mole family connections over time but especially as he was tying up lose ends as he neared publication. He impressed me as a careful researcher, attentive to details. His book is a valuable addition to the history of that area of present day Allendale and Hampton counties and its early German settlers. Thanks, Joe. Good job.

Joe and Annette are great people. I'll always remember visiting them both in West Ashley and Edisto Island with my Mom and Dad (Joe's first cousin), and seeing them in Orangeburg. He was probably the biggest GT sports fan I've met! My Dad, John Fairey, also remembers Joe from family gatherings at their grandparents house/farm in Orangeburg in the 1930's. Joe will really be missed.

Having Joe and Annette as friends and fellow church members during our years at Edisto Beach enriched our lives. Joe was a kindred spirit and like a brother. We remember him with great fondness and happiness. Our thoughts and prayers are with Annette, Laura and Amanda as they grieve but also celebrate his life. May God be with them and keep us all close to Him.

Annette and family,

Elaine and I were deeply saddened to learn of Joe's passing. His presence in our lives will be missed as he was a gentleman, scholar, and treasured friend. He loved his family, church, community and gave generously to each.

You and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers during this somber and difficult time. May the Lord bless you.

Dear Annette, Laura, and Amanda,
Our entire family mourns the loss of Joe with all of you. We all have such wonderful memories of spending time with your family at Edisto Beach. Allison and Caroline still say it is their favorite beach, and that is largely due to your hospitality and kindness when we would visit. We will miss Joe a lot. He was truly a great friend and mentor and had a great sense of humor. He was always so kind to all of us.

We know Joe is in a better place with Jesus. We are so sorry we can't be at the visitation or service. All of us will be in North Carolina for Easter to spend time with my dad who has been seriously ill since Thanksgiving, but has hung on to make it to his 90th birthday. Please know we are praying for God's blessings and comfort for you and your family. Please don't hesitate to reach out if we can provide any support you might need at this challenging time. We hope to be able to visit you, Annette, some time later this year.

Our condolences go out to Annette and family. My family and I have been going to Edisto Beach for as long as I can remember and that is also how long I have known Joe and Annette. They have always shown my family unconditional true friendship and have always been there when we needed them. May you rest in peace Joe. We will miss you. Ya'll have always held a special place in my family's hearts and memories.
