I am so very sorry to read of John's passing, Courtnay. I so enjoyed being friends and working with John. He had a heart of gold, and I could share anything with him, and he understood and was so compassionate. He always spoke of how he adored you, and that's one thing I always admired about him. I lost my husband of 8 years 18 months ago, so my heart is with you. Please know my love and prayers are with you.

It was with great sadness that I learned of John's passing. Like so many others that worked with him at Vocational Rehabilitation, I found John's kindness, sense of humor and guidance to help keep me going on many a tough day. He never said no when someone asked for help or counseling, be it staff member or client, and I don't believe that anyone could say that they didn't like and admire him greatly. A true gentleman, and a great human being. Courtney, my condolences and prayers go out to you. I remember how John would light up when you stopped by the office - it was clear that he loved you very much.

Dear family of John Scott Wilson,

It was with great sadness to learn of John’s recent passing. However, knowing that he went so peacefully, provided me great comfort!
John was my brother-in-law for 18 years, but always remained my family. He was a gentle, quiet soul and a wonderful father to Scott.
There wasn’t a boastful gene in his body. His service to our country combined with his profession of helping others cope with life’s difficulties, was evidence of this.
John, may you rest in peace..God loves you my brother and so do I!!!

My heartfelt condolences go out to John’s family and friends including my friend and coworker, Ryan Smith. I wish you all peace. I didn’t have the privilege of meeting John but he obviously lived a very full life and leaves a loving family. Anyone could be proud of such a legacy.

John was a wonderful man, with a strong work ethic. After our son, Scott, was born, he became a fully involved, loving father.
As an enlisted airman in the Air Force, salary often did not cover bills. Consequently, he could often be found running check sorting machines in local banks at night after his military day or taking manager shifts at McDonalds on weekends. He did these things without complaint and often with little sleep in an effort to provide a better life for his family. As a father, he helped take Scott to medical appointments, tag football and baseball practices and games as well as swim meets. He even served as an assistant coach for many of the teams. He taught Scott to handle firearms safely and become a marksman, hunt, drive a car, swim, toss a Frisbee and many other "coming of age" lessons.
During John's enlisted military service he was a morse code operator and worked various areas in accounting and finance. John, however, knew he was capable of more. He applied for an ROTC slot, was accepted and finished his college education. Around 1985, he received his commission as an officer in the Air Force and was stationed at Minot AFB as a missile launch officer.
John's passing leaves a void that will be impossible to fill for Scott and many others.
My heart breaks for my son and for Courtney and the other children and grandkids.
I am, and always will be, exceeding grateful that God put him in my life and blessed us with the best son parents could hope for.
Rest with the Lord, John, you have certainly earned it.
With love and respect
Susan Matthiesen
