He and his dedicated wife, Theodora "Teddy" Walpole, co-owned and operated Sunny Point Farms, a large tomato farm and shipping facility. John was strong in his Christian faith, and tried to live his life in obedience to God. John served the community in many different capacities. He was a strong advocate of private property rights. He served on the following: Board of Directors for the Council of Agricultural Employees; Clemson Board of Visitors, Farm Service Agency Committee; SC Coastal Zone Management Appellate Panel; Charleston County Planning Commission, Comprehensive Plan Technical Committee; Charter Member of Sea Island Academy Board of Visitors; Board of SC Health and Environmental Protection Agency; President of the SC Tomato Association; Chairman of SC Migrant and Farm Worker Committee; Member of The SC Agriculture Society; and a member of South Carolina Farm Bureau. He was the recipient of the Edisto Savannah Valley Clean Water award in 1992 and the Environmental Protection Agency Region IV Water Quality Award in 1994. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, his "Sweet Teddy", Theodora Wilson Walpole; their children: Bill Walpole (Bert), Jan Walpole, Jo Appleby (Tommy), Susan Walpole and John B. Walpole Jr. (Heather); grandchildren: Billy (Jennifer), Ashley "Bucky" (Sara), Wilson (Alyssa), Peter, Legare, Thomas (Sarah), Matthew, Christopher, Josephine (Chris), James (Tatum), Alexis (David) and Bailey; great-grandchildren: Edings, Bates, Peyton, Violet, Caroline, Wilson, Corbett, Penelope and Brooks. He is also survived by his sister, Lucia Walpole Welch of Savannah, GA. John is predeceased by his parents, Cornelia Porcher Walpole and Eugene Hay Walpole as well as siblings, June, Gene, Philip, Mary and Edward. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 15, 2023, at the Wilson-Walpole Family Cemetery on Wadmalaw Island. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive guests following the service at their home on Sunny Point. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SC Gideons International (www.gideons.org) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org). Mr Walpole was a very kind man and I learned a lot about life through his stories he told me. I've been his FedEx delivery driver for over 10 years and he always called me skipper. I used to see him sitting in his recliner snoring and running back and forth with the golf cart catching fish to put in his pond in front of his house to make sure the kids would catch fish. You will be missed.

Thinking of you and you family in the loss of John. We went to school together and although years and miles separated me from my school mates I always remembered our teenage years at St. John’s . May God comfort you and family during this time. God Bless, Evelyn Acklin Glover

John was an acquaintance one doesn't easily forget. I can remember back in the 80's when he owned the John Deere tractor company, and what a great job he did running that organization. John was always a fair man in his business dealings and commanded tremendous respect. Of course we all knew Teddy was the one that made it all work out.
Teddy, I'm sure John is in a better place now. May God bless you and your entire family.
Respectfully,
Rick Buckner

I have repeated the story many times about him "disposing" of his Television. Remember my hunts with Bill on the island.
