To the Tupper Family,

Our family made many trips to Tupperway in the last 20 years and always found John to be so friendly, polite and trustworthy. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose life he touched.

I've met Mr. Tupper through my best friend Ana (Mr. and Mrs. Tupper’s exchange student), and I liked him very much from day one. I've been a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Tupper's numerous times since then, and I was always greeted with tremendous kindness and hospitality, and I always felt at home in their house.

I always thought of Mr. Tupper as of a very charismatic, polite and charming man who’s demeanor demanded sympathy and respect, but I really got to know him and witness his unique character through Ana, who loved him and admired him as if he were her father.

He was not just a great host to Ana, he was far more than that. He was always there to protect her, love her, help her and just be there for her. And i know that he made her feel as a part of the family, which as you can imagine means a world to someone who is miles away from home, staying in a foreign country.

It just shows what a generous and a great man he was !

I must admit that I always envied Ana's relationship with her host family. And what a host family she was blessed with! ...such a big, loving, caring and united family, the kind i imagined the exemplar Southern family to be. I am sure Mr. Tupper is watching them from above and feeling very PROUD.

Mr. Tupper made sure that Ana experiences the best that America has to offer, and that she enjoys her stay. Whether it’s dinner parties, boat trips or just hanging out, Mr. and Mrs. Tupper very often hosted us (other exchange students) and showed us some real Southern hospitality that I will forever appreciate and never forget. And when they ask me about American people here at home (Montenegro), I say that they are the kindest people I’ve met thanks to the Tupper family.

So, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the Tupper family, especially to Gloria, whom I admire very much, and just say that I’ll remember John Tupper as a true Southern Gentleman in every sense of the word…of the kind that don’t seem to exist any longer…the kind that you see in good movies…

Gloria and the Tupper Family, Some men go through life never noticed and never standing for something - John was different. He walked into a room and you knew he was there. He spoke in a group and he was listened to. He really "walked his talk". I witnessed this several years ago when we "tail gated" at a Pinewood away football game. Someone from their booster club complained to John (the cook of course) that since we didn't buy any concessions we were denying them income to help their football team. Monday came and John sent her a $50 check with an apology. I told him several times he was one of my heroes. Mark me as one of his "students" of life.

Lee and family,

You and I haven't seen each other since high school, but when I was in Summerville back in June, my mom had a car issue she wanted checked right after she picked me up at the airport, so before we even went to her house, we went by Tupperway. I saw your dad then, and am just shocked to hear the sad news about his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
