John Tobin Obituary

John L. Tobin, Sr. CHARLESTON - John L. Tobin, Sr. 85, of Charleston and widower of Opal Gaines Tobin, died, Tuesday, May 2, 2017. John Tobin was born on November 13, 1931 in Charleston, SC to the late Richard and Margaret Tobin. He retired as the shipping manager/treasurer for Etiwan Fertilizer Co., Massey Coal Co., and Burris Chemical. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as an Airborne Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division in the Korean War. Survivors include his sons, John L. Tobin Jr. and Stephen G. Tobin, both of James Island, SC. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edward Tobin and Richard Tobin, Jr. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 1:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island, South Carolina. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted to www.mcalister-smith.com.
