I'm so sorry to read of John's passing. He was such a great friend to my parents (Frank and Peggy Heinsohn). And he was always so nice to us kids. My dad knew him from growing up in downtown Charleston and playing sandlot half rubber and baseball. He told me about it at my dad's funeral. He was also in the Optimist club with my dad. But, he was so genuine and generous and just a very good man who had a few hard things happen in his life but didn't let that stop him. Much love and sympathy at this difficult time to the family. Prayers.

I met John and Mary Lee through their involvement with The Christian Jewish Council of Charleston and the Lowcountry until I was no longer able to participate. Mary Lee served as President and John was always supportive and equally committed. They were always such a pleasure to be around. May his memory be a blessing.

Memory eternal to a righteous, gracious, man of faith. I will always hold you dear in my heart. You are a pillar of moral strength. Your love for the Lord was boundless and service to His children part of your calling. You shared your friendship with me and your wisdom. I will remember you telling me about "holy moments." We shared a love for serving the incarcerated, knowing that our Lord came not for the whole but for the broken. He came for us all.

I am blessed that I was able to pray with you and hold your hand sharing the prayers of St. Padre Pio knowing your strong Catholic faith. Thank you for being my friend and welcoming me into your home, again and again. I know you are in the arms of the Faither and will hear the words that we all long to hear: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

I also know this, you were not only an inspiration to me but to many.

God bless and hold Mary Lee, Rachelle, Paul, and his family, and all your loved ones.
