John Hermsen Obituary

HERMSEN, John WALTERBORO Master Chief John W. Hermsen, United States Navy (Ret.), age 77, of 273 Branch Road, Walterboro, died Saturday afternoon, November 24, 2007, at his residence under the care of Odyssey Health Care Hospice. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Nellie Hiott Hermsen whom he was married to for forty-eight years. Funeral services will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, November 27, 2007, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Daniel Cooper officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. Master Chief Hermsen was born August 25, 1930, in Saint Charles, South Dakota and was the youngest of nine children born to the late John and Mabel Duvall Hermsen. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy for twenty-six years having seen action in the Vietnam Era and the Korean Conflict. While in service he was stationed at the Garden of Tonka Bay as a mine man and the time of his discharge had reached the rank of Master Chief. He was also a longtime Colleton County farmer and was of the Baptist Faith. He was known as someone whose generous spirit that touched so many. He was a hard worker who strived to make his world and those around him a better place. He led a good righteous life, loving and caring for his family. The shining example of the life he led should be a source of comfort and strength to all of us who mourn. Surviving are: two daughters, Debra Dandridge and her husband Rodger of Walterboro and Katherine Hermsen of Walterboro; a sister, Edna Kramberk of Oregon; two grandchildren, Michael S. Dandridge and Shannon Varner; and one great granddaughter, Morgan Amber Dandridge.
