John Gurley Obituary

John Phillips Gurley SUMMERVILLE - John Phillips Gurley, 82, of Summerville, husband of Olene Tyson Gurley, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Hallmark Health Center in Summerville. A memorial service will be held at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 1 o'clock PM. John was born on May 29, 1933 in Blount County, AL, son of the late Wiley Joseph Gurley and Lou Ada (Phillips) Gurley. He was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force, in which he served for 23 years. He also retired from the American Red Cross after many years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. Surviving, in addition to his wife Olene, are: one daughter, Candace Burns and her husband Bill of Ladson; three step-daughters, Vadene Echols of Ladson, Brenda Buchanan and her husband Donald of Newborn, GA and Sandra Ackerman of Lanceaster, SC; six step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sara Richardson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley & Gary Richardson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
