To the Gillison Family,
"There was man sent from God and his name was John". When I was privileged to introduce him this was one of the many ways I began the introduction. He was truly sent from God as leader extraordinaire. He was the unrelenting catalyst for my change from a local to an itinerant elder. I consider him the Father of my pastoral ministry. He was very encouraging and supportive and I am deeply saddened by his death. I pray for the comfort of the Holy Spirit to embrace all of you. In his prayers for deceased members he frequently quoted, " There is a land of pure delight where saints immortal reign." He has now joined that great cloud of witnesses.

Cousin John I just spoke to you at the last family funeral aunt Mattie Waymer. You ask me the same questions you always ask. Answering with the same yes as I aways. How's your dad doing. I will remember you well. I was at your wedding now at your funeral. RIP uncle John Gillison. The family and the world will miss you.

Mrs. Gillison and family, I am saddened to
learn of Elder Gillison's departure. As his classmate at Allen University, I knew that John was destined for greatness in the kingdom of God. He leaves an imprint on all of us. A child of God has gone home to rest from his labor. May our loving Father give you strength and comfort as you observe his home going. I shall continue to lift you up in prayer.

Pastor Gillison will be missed. Thank God for his "works" here on earth. As one from Jasper County, S.C., I am proud to have known him and grew up with him as a child. I give God the glory!

I offer my deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers for strength and comfort for Mrs. Gillison, Alfreda, Gloria and all other family members and friends of Rev. John Gillison. He definitely had an impact on me during his tenure at Emanuel AME Church and I was blessed to become friends with Alfreda and Gloria. God bless your minds, hearts and spirits.

We are sadden by the death of our beloved former pastor and presiding elder. Presiding Elder Gillison was truly a gentleman and an inspiration to all. His sense of humor and stories will always be remembered. Hold to God's unchanging hands. He will never let you go.

My former presiding elder of the Edisto District, you will be greatly missed and my sincere condolences to Mrs. Jean Gillison,the daughters, Freda & Gloria, son in law and grandsons. A life well lived and rest well deserved. I will definitely miss that yearly call on Monday, Oct. 26th on our birthday. You would call me each year and say Happy Birthday, birthday mate, but I'm sure you'll be rejoicing and celebrating in your new Heavenly home. RIP Rev. My family and I are deeply sorry for the loss of our late Pastor and Presiding Elder of Emanuel AME Church, Rev. Dr. John Gillison. I've been blessed to work under his leadership and will truly miss his jokes. May God wrap His loving arms around each of you and grant you the peace and understanding needed through this difficult time. Rev. Gillison was prepared for eternal life and is now at rest in his heavenly home. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. May you always be blessed in the Lord.
