Joan DeVito Obituary

Joan DeVito N. CHARLESTON - Joan Henrietta DeVito, age 89, of North Charleston SC, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 16th 2012. She was born in Chelmsford, Essex UK on February 7th 1923 to the late Bob Chapman and Florence Chapman. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was of the Catholic Faith. She met the love of her life, the young Sgt. DeVito who was serving his country in England during World War II. She was a young English Lass serving her country in the Service of the Women's Land Army. They fell in love amongst the turmoil of war and were married on March 17, 1945 in Ilford, Essex. Joe brought Joan home to America where they have lived "happily ever after" for the past 67 years. She is survived by her husband of 67 years: Joseph M. DeVito of North Charleston SC; daughters: JoAnn Abell (Lou) of North Charleston SC, and Janet McLauchlin (Stuart) of Hope Mills NC; grandchild: Joseph Mack McLauchlin of Hope Mills NC; great grandchild: Cameron Joseph McLauchlin of Hope Mills NC; brother: Bob Chapman of the UK. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 19th 2012 at Carolina Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston SC 29406, Chaplain Gregory R. Robertson officiating. Entombment will follow in Carolina Memorial Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM until the time of service on Sunday, February 19th 2012 at Carolina Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston SC 29406.
