Joan Bryce Obituary

Joan Damon Bryce FLORENCE, SC - Joan Damon Bryce, of Florence and Charleston, SC, died on March 8, 2023. Mrs. Bryce was born in Atlanta, Georgia, daughter of the late Raymond Eugene Damon and Anne Bell Damon. Mrs. Bryce was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Thomas Bryce, Jr. Joan was educated in the Atlanta public school system and was a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and served on the official board of the church. She served as co-chairman of the Needlepoint Committee of the church. Mrs. Bryce taught elementary school in the Florence public school system. Later she taught kindergarten at Calvary Baptist Church in Florence. Mrs. Bryce was active in the community, holding many offices in various clubs and organizations. She was past president of The Junior League of Florence, was a charter member and past president of the Forget-Me-Not Garden Club, past president of the Florentine Society and past president of the Florence Council of Garden Clubs. She was a life member of the Garden Club of South Carolina, having served on the board and was a past district Director. She also became a member of the Garden Club of Charleston, the Needlepoint Guild and Sampler Guild of Charleston. Surviving are her two daughters, Maddelle Bryce Christian (Stephen) and Jennifer Bryce Polon (Dan), and her grandchildren, Bryce Christian, Caulder Christian, Maddelle Polon, and Adam Polon. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Central United Methodist Church with burial following in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service in the church Commons Area. Waters-Powell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
