Jimmie Nell Stuckey MT. PLEASANT - On April 11, 2013, Jimmie Nell Stuckey passed away peacefully in Rockville, MD. Beloved mother of Pamela Stuckey, Deborah Mulhern, and Lisa Stuckey, adored grandmother "Meemah" of Amanda Pollak, Kiera Mulhern, Gabe Pollak, Will Mulhern, and Hayley Mulhern. Predeceased by her partner, Jean Clute. Jimmie Nell was born on February 27, 1930 in Hackleburg, Alabama, grew up in Florida, and attended college at Stetson University. After marrying Robert Stuckey, she moved to the New York Metropolitan area, where she was involved with Civil Rights. She was present at the Lincoln Memorial on the day Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his historical speech in August, 1963. As a mother, she provided dedicated support to her daughters in developing their creative talents and intellectual skills. After raising her children, she earned a Masters in Social Work at Rutgers University, after which for many years she practiced in the fields of family therapy and alcohol and drug addiction. She was awarded the 1980 Woman of the Year Award by the NJ Task Force on Women and Alcohol. Upon retiring, she moved to Mount Pleasant, SC, where she was able to enjoy her passions of gardening, bird-watching, reading, spending time with friends and doing the NY Times crossword puzzle. She will be remembered by her friends and family for many fine qualities including humility, curiosity, compassion, wisdom, and a youthful outlook on life. She will be remembered by her family for her bad puns, joyful silly spirit, laugh, brilliant mind, warmth and mischievous smile. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
