Jerry Snipes Obituary

Jerry Allen Snipes CHARLESTON - Jerry Allen Snipes, 68 of Charleston, passed away May 25, 2013. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Monroe and Nanny Kirk Snipes and husband to Ruby Garrett Snipes. Jerry graduated from Belton High School, where he was a talented basketball and baseball player. After high school, he joined the United States Army, serving in Germany and during the Korean War. He worked for Eastern Airlines until his retirement. Mr. Snipes loved saltwater fishing for barracuda and dolphin, was an avid Clemson athletic fan and enjoyed eating shrimp, boiled peanuts and any sweets. Jerry was a very proud supporter of the Democrat party. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his life will be cherished by those who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Snipes of the home; three sons, Dirk Snipes and wife Melanie of Charleston, Michael Snipes and wife Gloria of Piedmont, SC and Kevin Snipes and wife Rhianna of Mt. Pleasant; daughter Tara McClellion and husband Kevin of Williamston, SC; brother, Delbert Snipes of Miami, FL; sister, Joanne Hyde of Rome, GA. Mr. Snipes is also survived by eight grandchildren. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. in MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL, 347 Folly Road.
