Janice Snider Obituary

Janice Marie Snider ISLE OF PALMS - Janice Marie Snider, 52, of Isle of Palms, SC peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. She was born on Wednesday, August 7, 1963 in Dover, DE to Mrs. Ellen Steinbach and the late Mr. Donald William Wohlgemuth. Janice graduated from Towson University with a BA in History and went on to complete Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI and serve in the United States Navy in Guam and Virginia Beach. After her service, she worked at a law firm in Durham NC. Upon relocating to Boston, she worked for Fidelity until she left to raise her daughter Melanie and pursue other endeavors, including serving as director of marketing and publications at the Rivers School Conservatory in Weston, MA. She was a versatile musician who played with the Rivers Symphony Orchestra, and she enjoyed sharing her musical talents at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Sudbury, MA and at St. Ignatius Church at Boston College. She was also a talented photographer and videographer. Janice's other passions included animals and working with organizations such as Charleston's Valiant: Animal Rescue and Relief, swimming and scuba diving, following the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots, and spending time with her family and friends. Her family will remember her as a loving daughter, mother, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Veronica Snider, of Chicago, IL; mother, Margaret Ellen Steinbach, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister, Lori Ellen Wohlgemuth (Thomas Tull), of Mt. Pleasant, SC; step-brothers, James Steven Steinbach (Karen), of Finksburg, MD, Christopher Steinbach (Carey Sheahan), of Baltimore, MD, and Greg Steinbach, of Woodlands, TX; step-sister, Therese Hamlin, of Auckland, New Zealand; all of her furry friends (Bailey, Iggy, Goose, Maverick, and Tiger); and loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Donald William Wohlgemuth, and her step-father, Lt. Col. James John Steinbach. Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Roper St. Francis Hospital (Charleston) for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to Valiant: Animal Rescue and Relief (website: valiantanimalrescue.org, donations: https://npo.justgive.org/ARR). A memorial service celebrating Janice's life will take place in the Spring. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at www.McAlister-Smith.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, MT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1520 RIFLE RANGE ROAD, MT PLEASANT, SC (843) 884-3833.
