Janet Fitzgibbon Babcock CHARLESTON - Janet Fitzgibbon Babcock, 77, of
Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Courtland T. Babcock II, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Born January 14, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Janet was the only daughter, along with two brothers, of the late Joseph A. Fitzgibbon and the late Edith Jackson Fitzgibbon. After careers as a hospital administrator and cosmetic sales, her life changed with the family's move from New Jersey to Hilton Head, SC, in 1995. There, Janet discovered her passion for part-time work in fashion design and retail. She soon blossomed into home-decorating and wardrobe consulting, and skin care, fields that introduced her to a new world of creativity and personal connection. A natural in every way, Janet's clients loved her cheerful energy, enthusiasm, and genuine engagement with everyone she met and counseled. Janet loved to travel with her husband on mountain getaways and with her wide circle of friends, especially her dearest friend Michele, who accompanied her on many of her trips near and far. Paris was her most beloved destination. Janet visited the City of Lights nine times and always had a new story to tell about each one. Bright, quick-witted, and deeply caring, Janet made a warm home in Hilton Head then on Daniel Island with room to welcome her children, grandchildren, and the many friends and other family who often enjoyed her warm hospitality. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her son, C.T. Babcock and his wife, Melissa of Hilton Head; her daughter, Stephanie Babcock-Wright of Savannah, GA; and her five cherished grandchildren: Courtland, Abigail, Madeline, Samuel, and Benjamin. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Joseph Fitzgibbon and Terrence Fitzgibbon. Celebrations of Janet's life will be held by the family in several locales where different branches of the family now live, beginning with her many cousins in the Philadelphia area. Memorials may be made to a food
charity of one's choice, including locally to the Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston. Janet was also a wonderful storyteller. Many an evening, she delighted friends with tales of her travels, her childhood as the youngest of three in a lively Irish family, and even her experiences weathering Category 5 hurricanes. Some stories were so funny she could hardly finish them for laughing. Those memories will be treasured and retold for years to come. Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.
