James Pace Obituary

James M. Pace BRITTON'S NECK, SC - James Monroe Pace, 84, of Britton's Neck, S.C. went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, March 12, 2011, after a brief illness. Mr. Pace was born in Horry County on July 31 1926, to George Herbert Pace and Bessie Capps Pace. He graduated from Britton's Neck High School, after which he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Philippines during World War II. Mr. Pace was a faithful, Lifelong member of Nebo Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Discipleship Training Director. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW and Britton's Neck Young Farmers and Agribusiness Chapter, in which he was a charter member and served as its first president. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Mr. Pace is survived by: his wife of 64 years: Catherine C. Pace; two sons: Shelton Pace and Jerry (Jean) Pace, all of Britton's Neck; a sister: Louise (Roy) Phillips of Charleston; two grandchildren: Vince (Emily) Pace of Britton's Neck and Ashley (Brett) Calhoun of Myrtle Beach; and one very special great-granddaughter, Peyton Pace, all of whom loved their "Papa" very much; as well as several nieces, nephews and many, many friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pace was predeceased by a sister, Leona Pace Calcutt, a brother, Lloyd Pace and a foster brother, Tommie Murrow. Visitation will be held Monday afternoon, March 14, from 2:30 until 4:00 P.M. at Nebo Baptist Church in Britton's Neck, with the funeral services immediately following at 4:00 P.M. Mr. Pace will be laid to rest in the cemetery there at Nebo Baptist Church following the service. The family of Mr. Pace is being served by Smith-Collins Funeral Home of Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nebo Baptist Church, 6411 Hwy. 908, Britton's Neck, S.C. 29546 or to McLeod Hospice, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, S.C. 29502.
