James Dodson Obituary

James Lacy Dodson, Jr. CHARLESTON - James Lacy Dodson, Jr., of Charleston SC, passed away on February 16, 2024. Jim was born on April 3, 1934, in Columbia, SC. He was a graduate of the Citadel Class of 1955. He went on to serve as a Captain in the U.S. Army, before returning to Columbia to serve as the CEO of his family business, Dodd's Five and Ten Cent Stores. Jim was a Past President of the Citadel Alumni Association and a long-time member of the Hibernian Society. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillian (Itty) Hunter Dodson. He is survived by his son, James Dodson; stepson, William J. O'Brien III; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Ruoss; grandchildren, Chris (Megan) Ruoss, William J. O'Brien IV, Ashleigh O'Brien, Jonathon (Jamie) Ruoss, Matthew Ruoss, and Harper Dodson; along with six great-grandchildren, Adam, Luke, Caroline, Jonathon, Emily and Halie. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 PM Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC. Arrangements by JAMES A.
