James Coker Obituary

James Rollin Coker KIAWAH ISLAND - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jim; our beloved husband, father, brother, and Poppi, at the age of 79 years on April 29, 2024. Born in Charleston, South Carolinaon February 27, 1945, Jim spent many years in Memphis, Tennessee before moving to Kiawah Island, South Carolina in 2006 with his wife, Ralla, spending the remainder of his years as a member of the Kiawah Island Club, the Governer's Country Club, and The Golf Club at Briar's Creek. Jim ,or as he was known by his much-loved grandchildren, "Poppi",was an avid fisherman, bird hunter, and golfer; an all-around outdoorsman. In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Jim was a successful businessman in the financial markets. He had a passion for his work and continued working even after his retirement. He was known for his astute judgement and unwavering integrity. But perhaps Jim's greatest joy came from his beloved hunting dog, Caesar. Together, they forged an unbreakable bond, a testament to the loyalty and companionship that only a canine friend can provide. Jim will be forever remembered by his wife, Ralla, daughters, Heather (Tony) Tyrrell and Hilary (Hamilton) Shaw, brother, Archie (Pam) Coker, and five grandchildren In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Jim.

Dear Ralla and family,

I am so sorry to learn of Jim's passing. I enjoyed the 7 years I worked for him at PaineWebber and then later at Raymond James. I learned so much from Jim. We worked hard but also had many laughs; he was so funny :) Jim was so good to me both personally and professionally. He was one-of-a-kind for sure!

Having lost my Joe in August 2018, I truly know your pain and immeasurable loss. Losing a husband/best friend and "partner in crime" leaves an empty hole in your heart that no one can fill. Let the happy memories flood your mind and know how he truly loved you all.

Most sincerely,

Jen
